Clear Comfort will help keep your pool water looking great, clear and sparkling. It will even feel wonderful, silky, and smooth. And Clear Comfort is incredibly easy on your skin, eyes and hair.
You will specially feel comfortable knowing that Clear Comfort kills bacteria and prevents the growth of swimming pool algae. At the same time, it is gentle on pool surfaces. This non-chlorine pool care system consists of all-liquid products so application is easy. You just pour Clear Comfort products directly into your pool.
To get most out of Clear Comfort products, both the circulation and filtration systems must work at their most effective level.
Circulation:
Pool water needs to circulate properly in order to get the most out of your pool care products. You should run the pump and filter at least 10 to 12 hours every day.
Filtration:
The pool filter removes particles in the water. To work efficiently, it must be the right size for your pool, in good repair, and cleaned regularly. It is important to chemically clean your filter every four to six weeks with Clear Comfort Filter Cleaner.
Essential Clear Comfort Products:
The four products listed below are the mainstay of the Clear Comfort non-chlorine pool care system.
1. Clear Comfort Algaecide:
Prevents the growth of algae to help pool water stay clear and looking healthy.
2. Clear Comfort Sanitizer:
Kills bacteria to keep pool water protected and clear. This product is tough on bacteria but gentle on swimmers. You should maintain a sanitizer level of 30 to 50 parts per million.
3. Clear Comfort Clarifier:
Keeps water sparkling clear while preventing cloudiness.
4. Clear Comfort Filter Cleaner:
Specifically formulated for use with pool filters in a Clear Comfort pool. It removes build-up and debris that normally accumulates in these filters. Be sure to apply Filter Cleaner every four weeks to keep the filter clean and operating properly. Failure to use Filter Cleaner every four to six weeks will result in poor filtration and cloudy water.
Products for occasional use
Clear Comfort Algaecide, Sanitizer, Clarifier and Filter Cleaner are all you need for routine pool care. Occasionally there are other products you will need to maintain trouble-free water.
1. Clear Comfort Stain Control:
If you have a plaster pool, Clear Comfort Stain Control must be added when you open or start-up your pool. It should also be added if there are any metals in your water, no matter what type of pool you have.
2. Clear Comfort Neutralize:
Use this product to eliminate chlorine or bromine residual when converting your pool to the Clear Comfort system. You may also need it if your make-up water is chlorinated. It's a good idea to check with your pool care professional for advice.
Ideal water balance
pH: 7.2 to 7.8
Total alkalinity: 125-150 ppm
Calcium hardness: 200-275 ppm
Importance of balanced water:
Did you know that pool water has a pH reading and contains certain mineral elements? It is important that your water has the proper pH and right amount of these minerals. That's what we mean by balanced water.
If the water is out of balance-meaning certain elements are too high or too low-there can be problems. Products you add for pool maintenance might not work properly. Equipment and pool surfaces can also be affected. Corrosion may etch away plaster surfaces. Scale, a deposit that builds up on the pool and inside pipes and equipment, may form. Balance water is easy with Clear Comfort.
Home Testing with Clear Comfort:
Testing your water regularly is one of the most important aspects of pool maintenance. With Clear Comfort, you only need to test once a week. And it is easy when you use Clear Comfort 3-Way Test Strips. These strips accurately measure the level of Clear Comfort Sanitizer in the water, along with pH and total alkalinity.
Simply dip a 3-way Test Strip into your pool water. Compare the test pads on the strip to the color charts on the bottle to determine your readings for pH, total alkalinity and Clear Comfort Sanitizer. Remember to replace the cap tightly when you are finished with the Test Strip Bottle. The pH of the water should read between 7.2 and 7.8. Total alkalinity should read between 125 and 150 ppm. The Clear Comfort Sanitizer level should fall between 30 and 50 ppm. If the level is below 30 ppm, add one pint of Sanitizer per 10000 gallons of pool water to raise the level in increments of 10 ppm
You can also check the level of Clear Comfort Clarifier in your pool by using Clarifier Test Strips. The level of Clarifier should always be between 20 and 60 ppm.
Starting your pool on Clear Comfort system
Converting from chlorinated or brominated pools:
If you have been using a chlorinating or brominating system to maintain your pool, you must convert your pool before starting the non-chlorine Clear Comfort system.
Clear Comfort Sanitizer is completely incompatible with all chlorinating and brominating products, as well as a few other products. Converting is not a difficult process, but it should be performed correctly to avoid problems. Removing all chlorinating or brominating products from your pool is the most important step. They are commonly added through automatic feeders, skimmers and floaters. If you have been adding products through the skimmer, remove all traces, granules or partly dissolved sticks or pucks. If you have been using a floater, remove it from the pool.
If there is any chlorine or bromine residual in you pool, add Clear Comfort Neutralize per label directions in order to remove it. After application, re-test pool water to make sure chlorine or bromine residual is completely gone before adding any Clear Comfort products.
Clean your filter, you will need to backwash your filter and then apply Clear Comfort Filter Cleaner per label directions. It is important to use Filter Cleaner every four to six weeks so your filter can keep your water clear.
Analyze your pool water, test your water to make sure it is in great shape. Please give any additional attention your particular pool may need.
Starting the non-chlorine Clear Comfort System:
Whether you are filling a pool for the first time or are converting from a chlorinating or brominating system, now you are ready to add the Clear Comfort products.
1. Add Clear Comfort Algaecide:
You will need one quart of Algaecide for every 25000 gallons of pool water. After adding it, let the water circulate for two hours.
2. Add Clear Comfort Clarifier:
Use one gallon of Clarifier for every 10000 gallons of pool water. Let the water circulate overnight.
3. Add Clear Comfort Sanitizer:
Pour in one half gallon of Sanitizer for every 10000 gallons of pool water. Once the water has circulated for 24 to 48 hours, you need to test the Sanitizer level with your Test Strips. The ideal level is 30 to 50 parts per million, with 30 ppm the minimum acceptable level. If the level is too low, add another pint of Sanitizer for every 10000 gallons of pool water. That will raise the level by approximately 10 parts per million. To be sure, test the level again.
Once a week: Test pH and sanitizer level with Clear Comfort test strips. Brush and vacuum pool.
Every 2 weeks: Add maintenance dose of Clear Comfort Algaecide.
Every month: Add Clear Comfort Clarifiers.
Every 4-6 weeks: Clean filter with Clear Comfort Filter Cleaner. Add Stain Control if needed.
Pool maintenance using Clear Comfort system:
Keeping up with the non-chlorine Clear Comfort program is less time-consuming than most other pool caring programs. And the maintenance schedule is easy to follow.
Brush and vacuum weekly: Once a week, brush and vacuum your pool thoroughly. An automatic pool cleaner can help keep your pool clean between brushings, but it can not replace brushing. Brushing removes algae and other debris from the walls of your pool. Regular brushing will also help Clear Comfort products work their best.
Test pool water weekly:
With Clear Comfort, you only need to test your pool water once a week. A pH between 7.2 and 7.8 is acceptable.
The Clear Comfort Sanitizer level is acceptable at 30-50 ppm. Add this product per label directions to maintain the proper Sanitizer level.
Clear Comfort Clarifier should be maintained at 20-60 ppm. Test the level with Clarifier Test Strips and add if needed.
You must run the pump and filter at least 10 hours per day, vacuum and skim dirt and debris from the pool as needed, brush the pool wall and bottom weekly even your pool has automatic cleaner, test pH and total alkalinity and sanitizer levels weekly, backwash and chemically clean the filter with Clear Comfort Filter Cleaner every 4-6 weeks.
Closing your pool:
Because winter weather can be damaging to your pool, it is important to properly prepare your pool for the cold. Winterizing the right way will save time and money when you open your pool next season.
1. Brush and vacuum your pool thoroughly. Then clean your filter with Clear Comfort Filter Cleaner.
2. Add the initial dose of Clear Comfort Algaecide and Clarifier. That's one quart of Clear Comfort Algaecide for every 25000 gallons of pool water and one gallon of Clarifier for every 10000 gallons. Test your Clear Comfort Sanitizer level and add the proper amount to reach 50 ppm. One pint of Sanitizer for every 10000 gallons of pool water will raise the level by approximately 10 parts per million.
3. Let the pump run several hours to circulate the Clear Comfort products.
4. Turn the system off and winterize your equipment and cover the pool.
