Use on:
Porous surfaces such as processed wood products, concrete, wood, new drywall, and plaster. Test surfaces first in inconspicuous areas to be sure product absorbs into surfaces completely. Excellent at controlling emissions of open faced and faced fiberglass batt insulation - simply fog spray surfaces. Safe Seal's superior adhesion to a variety of surfaces allows for its use as a bonding primer to improve the adhesion and bonding power of adhesives and coatings on difficult surfaces. For example, apply a thin coat to the slab and bottom of the tile before laying floor tile adhesive (in this application no cure period is necessary; the adhesive may be applied while the Safe Seal is still tacky).
Product number and container size:
31204 (quart), 31104 (gallon) and 31304 (five gallon).
Advantage / significant benefits:
1. Highly effective at sealing in toxicity of underlying surface.
2. Safely used by and for the chemically sensitive.
3. Low odor, non-offensive to installer and occupant.
4. Fights indoor air pollution, seals in the outgassing from the substrate.
5. Low VOC content, meets or exceeds all federal and state air quality regulations, including California.
6. Contains no formaldehyde.
Surface preparation:
All surfaces must be clean and free from dirt, dust, grease, wax, oil, silicone, tsp/soap, mill scale, oxidation, loose peeling paint or varnish, or any foreign matter/contaminants. Apply test patches before undertaking large areas to assure good adhesion and lack of surface contamination.
Application:
To assist in quick drying/curing, bring adequate ventilation and air flow to the work area. Before using, stir Safecoat® Safe Seal thoroughly but without excessive agitation so as to avoid air bubbles. Then apply as is, using a brush, roller, sponge or appropriate spray equipment. Apply in thin coats. For most jobs, reducing this product should not be necessary. Milky appearance, dries clear. As the flexible membrane created by Safe Seal remains slightly tacky even when cured, surfaces treated with Safe Seal should generally be coated with a finish coating. For best results, this product should not be reduced. Note: these instructions are intended to be general only and not exhaustive. The applicator should determine what preparation and techniques are best suited to the specific surface
Coverage:
One gallon of Safecoat Safe Seal covers approximately 350 square feet in one coat depending on surface porosity.
Clean-up:
Drying/curing time:
Under normal conditions, Safecoat® Safe Seal dries to touch in one hour or less and can be top-coated (or if the surface is still porous recoated with another coat of Safe Seal) after 2 hours. Normal conditions include a dry surface, access to fresh air flow, moderate humidity, and temperatures above 55°F. Thick application, high humidity or conditions other than normal will cause Safecoat Safe Seal to dry and cure more slowly.
Limitations:
Unlike conventional sealers, Safecoat sealers are made without formaldehyde preservatives or toxic mildewcides or fungicides. Do not contaminate. Store in airtight containers. Do not use when indoor or surface temperature is below 55°F. Do not freeze.
Health precautions:
As with all coatings and sealers, keep container tightly closed and out of the reach of children. Do not take internally. Always use adequate ventilation. If you are chemically sensitive, always test for personal tolerance.
Limited liability:
Safecoat® products are guaranteed not to be defective when properly applied. Liability express or implied is limited to replacement of product or refund of purchase price and does not include liability for labor costs or consequential damages. Variable factors out of manufacturer's control, such as environmental conditions, application techniques, and surface conditions are critical to results obtained. Users are expected to exercise reasonable care to determine suitability of the product for each application. This limited warranty may not be modified or extended by manufacturer's representatives, distributors or dealers of AFM products. Always test in small, inconspicuous areas before application to the entire surface.
